Penny Burns was born on the 26th of November 1988. First Born to Raymond and Denise Burns. A wonderfully happy baby, there was no mistaking what an immediate presence she made to the whole family. Early in her life she spent a brief period in Gutersloh Germany where her father was based with the British Army. It wasn't long before the family were back home in England. Penny singing nursery rhymes with the odd word in German was the highlight for me along with her cheeky smile and love of chocolate which just went everywhere but in her mouth. From there she attended Kramel first school until 1997 and then to Southlands middle school until 2002 making many friends along the way and leaving a wonderful impression upon all teachers who knew during that time. Finally attending Cramlington high school until 2005. Until now Penny had enjoyed good health and vitality which was always plain to see. Enthusiastic and always having time to chat every time I met her she made every visit to my brothers house one of added delight. In March 2005 she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leaukaemia at the RVI hospital in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Apart from the initial shock and unexpected development of the disease, Penny started treatment straight away and after a short period reacted very well to the treatment given. Always smiling and always polite even through tough times Penny's strength helped many through this hard time. Penny was spending alot of time at home now and her love for MSN messenger helped her keep in touch with her friends and keep her mind busy during the boring parts of the treatment. Unfortunately in November 2005 the news wasn't good. Penny hadn't done as well as the doctors had hoped, and a new treatment was needed along with a full bone marrow transplant. Starting on her birthday, treatment began again with a new test drug. Unfortunately due to complications Penny died on the 9th of December 2005. With her whole family and relatives by her side we all said our goodbye's and Penny's left us with a hole in our hearts, but with fond thoughts and wonderful memories.
